Why the case type matters
Ohio Revised Code §5721.20 addresses remaining proceeds from covered tax-foreclosure sales, including notice and a county-treasury process. The section excludes specified transfers without sale. It is not a single rule for every tax-related property transfer. Ohio Revised Code §5721.20 ↗
Separate the dates in your file
A sale date, confirmation date, notice date and transfer of funds can describe different events. Keep the dates alongside the source documents instead of collapsing them into one “deadline.” Have the responsible office or an Ohio attorney explain which dates matter to your situation.
Record current information
When reviewing an older letter, ask whether its source still reflects the current case. A historical record can be accurate about a past event while no longer reflecting the amount held today. Note when the current status was checked and who provided the information.
- Property identification and county.
- The exact case or proceeding reference.
- Sale and distribution documents.
- Any official notice about remaining funds.
- The present office handling the balance.
What Caliber can help clarify
We can discuss the record trail, identify gaps in a preliminary estimate and explain the information shown in a Caliber notice. We do not decide legal priority or represent that a particular transfer necessarily created claimable proceeds.
